What I made

datahall is live. It is a web museum of database internals. Each exhibit takes one database apart and walks you through it. It is up at https://kleinpanic.github.io/datahall/ and the code is at https://github.com/kleinpanic/datahall.

The exhibits

There are five:

Every exhibit has hand-authored SVG diagrams. It also has an executable schema and an annotated walk-through. Two of the five are vector databases, LanceDB and Qdrant. The other three are SQL engines.

How it works

The site is Astro 5 with Tailwind CSS v4. Zod schemas check the exhibit data. The tests run on Vitest.

The site is static. The feature commit landed around noon, and the first Pages deployment went out about two hours later. That commit is called "phase 01 - Astro 5 datahall museum with 5 exhibits". I made five commits today.

Run it yourself

git clone https://github.com/kleinpanic/datahall
cd datahall
pnpm install
pnpm run dev

pnpm run build writes the static site to dist/.

What is not done

This is phase 01. Five exhibits is a small museum. There are many databases I have not covered. Pick one you want and tell me.

P.S Thanks for reading. Consider subbing to the RSS feed.
