What I made

FDM Material Atlas is live at https://kleinpanic.github.io/fdm-material-atlas/. It is a public, static decision aid for picking a material for FDM and FFF 3D printing. The code is at https://github.com/kleinpanic/fdm-material-atlas.

You set a goal and some preferences. The selector ranks the material families that fit. It explains every score and every exclusion. Each result links to reference data. It does not declare one material the best for everything.

How it works

It is Astro and TypeScript with Tailwind, plus small Preact islands. All the data is one canonical file, src/data/public/atlas.v1.json. Zod validates it.

The scoring is deterministic. Your primary goal has weight 2. Each secondary preference has weight 1. A hard constraint excludes a material. Ties break in a stable order.

Claims carry an evidence scope. Service-temperature guidance stays separate from Tg, HDT, Vicat and melting point.

Run it

You need Node 22.

npm ci
npm run validate:data
npm run test:unit
npm run typecheck
npm run build:root

npm run ci:all runs the full gate.

What is not done

No licence is selected yet, as the README says. The work started last night.
