What I just tagged

I just tagged v1.11.0 of ICS-Satellite! It makes iCalendar feeds you can subscribe to in any calendar app. Each feed lists the satellites passing over a place you pick. There are also rise, transit and set events for the eight planets. No Sun and no Moon. The code is at https://github.com/kleinpanic/ICS-Satellite and the live site is https://kleinpanic.github.io/ICS-Satellite/.

How it works

It is a Python package with a CLI called satpass. It pulls TLE data from CelesTrak and computes passes for a rolling 14 day horizon. It writes one .ics file per location and bundle, then builds a manifest at feeds/index.json. The feeds refresh every 6 hours.

The site is static and lives on GitHub Pages. To add a location you open a GitHub issue with a JSON payload. That is called IssueOps. Requests land in a SQLite file. Only requesters on an allow list can add locations.

Run it yourself

make doctor
make dev
.venv/bin/satpass validate --config config/config.yaml
make build
make serve

Then open the local preview the Makefile serves.

What is not done

The first commit is called "initial Commit import". That is why the first tag says 1.11.0. The history before it is not in this repo.

What is next

Try a location and tell me if the pass times look wrong. I want to know.

P.S Thanks for reading. Consider subbing to the RSS feed.
