What I just pushed
QuantumStriker is a 2D space shooter. It is written in C with SDL2, SDL2_ttf and SDL2_gfx. The code is at https://github.com/kleinpanic/QuantumStriker.
Two commits
I pushed the source first. That commit had 15 files and 943 lines and nothing else. Two minutes later I added the rest: a Makefile, a README, a CHANGELOG, CONTRIBUTING, TODO and the GPL-3.0 license. That second commit is the first one you can actually build and read about, so it is the release.
The name
The game used to be called Nebula Nexus. The version macro in src/version.h is still NEBULA_NEXUS_VERSION, and it says 0.1.5. The CHANGELOG already has entries from 0.0.1 up to 0.1.5, and the 0.1.5 entry is titled "QuantumStriker: The First Initial Polished Release". That older history is only in the CHANGELOG. It is not in git.
Build it
You need a C compiler, make and the SDL2 development packages:
sudo apt-get install build-essential libsdl2-dev \
libsdl2-ttf-dev libsdl2-gfx-dev
make
./Q-Striker
The binary is called Q-Striker.
What is not done
The game is small. The enemy code is 54 lines and has one basic enemy. The repo has a TODO file for the rest.
I did not tag this. The version lives in src/version.h and the CHANGELOG.
What is next
Try the build and tell me if it fails on your distro.
P.S Thanks for reading. Consider subbing to the RSS feed.
