What I made
I put out the SEPTA commute planner. It is a Beta 0.1. It is for SEPTA Regional Rail commuters who drive to a station and then walk to something on their calendar. The code is at https://github.com/kleinpanic/septa-commute-planner.
It runs in Google. It needs no laptop and no Pi.
What it does
It reads your attendance calendars. It lists the trains for each date from SEPTA's official GTFS data, including service exceptions. Google resolves the addresses, the driving time and the walk.
For each day you see train numbers, leave-by times and live delay and track evidence. It then writes two calendars. One holds the train options. The other is your main commute.
How it works
It is Google Apps Script on a schedule, in the V8 runtime, set to New York time. The code is three files, Core.gs, Planner.gs and Setup.gs, plus appsscript.json. Results land in a Google Sheet with Status, Settings, Stations and Selections tabs. The default profile needs no API key.
There are automated tests, with coverage and mutation gates.
Set it up
- Create a private Google Sheet.
- Open Extensions, then Apps Script. Add the three files and
appsscript.json. - Run
setupCommute. - Fill in Settings and Stations.
- Run "Set up / repair automation".
The README has eight steps in all.
Before you copy it
Clear the original owner's origin and calendar IDs. Never publish your own calendar IDs or addresses.
What is not done
It is a beta. The repo has only five commits so far.
P.S. Thanks for reading. Consider subbing to the RSS feed.
